The SIMOS JIP (Joint Industry Project) provides meteorological and oceanographic extreme and normal criteria for the waters surrounding Sakhalin Island. It was first completed in 1995 and then later updated in 1998 (as SIMOS-2) and again in 2004 and 2008 (as SIMOS-3).

Currently the hindcast contains the top-ranked 120 storms from the period 1956-2002, of which 31 were identified and hindcast using local data provided by SAKhydromet. The continuous period of 1980-2007 was also hindcast to provide operational statistics. Oceanweather's wave model was applied on a 50km and 10km nested grid. Hyperfine modeling was performed along the eastern coast of Sakhalin Island north of 50 N. Hydrodynamic modeling was completed and archived at nodes matching 10km and hyperfine grids.

All hindcast products are available via the OSMOSIS display and analysis software which is provided as part of the JIP. Extremes and operational statistics can be derived from the 10km and hyperfine storm/continuous hindcast grids.

Archived hindcast fields include wind speed/direction, wave height/period/direction, sea/swell partitions, surge height, vertically integrated current speed/directions and well as other standard Oceanweather wave fields.
